【IAA】How Actuaries are Innovating in the Banking Sector

WEBINAR INVITATION

Interested in Banking? Find out how Actuaries are Innovating in the Banking Sector!

“Since risk management is a key component of an actuary’s skill set, banks have increasingly been looking towards the actuarial profession to provide the resources needed to assess risk in banking and implement the necessary controls.”- Michael Tichareva

The Invicta Actuarial Society at the University of Kent, the Actuarial Society of South Africa (“ASSA”) and the International Actuarial Association (“IAA”) cordially invite you and Actuarial Students studying at your University to participate on the upcoming Webinar on Banking.  The online seminar will be held on Wednesday 29th of March, 2017 at 15.00 British Standard Time.

The Keynote speaker is Michael Tichareva who is serving as the current Chairperson of the Banking Committee of ASSA and the Banking Working Group of the IAA and is a seasoned banking actuary with over 16 years' experience in the financial services sector. He will be speaking on the opportunities opening up for actuaries in the banking sector driven mainly by global regulatory reform initiatives. This includes the BASEL II and III banking regulations as well as international accounting rules. He will also discuss the Banking Fellowship that was introduced by ASSA.

The talk will last for 1.5 hours and will include a 30-minute question and answer session. Roles of actuaries in banking will be covered as well as the skills that are relevant. Michael will lead a number of banking actuaries in giving an account of their experiences. Given actuaries' quantitative abilities and understanding of the financial world, actuaries are able to play a key role in each of the following areas:

  1. 1. Credit scorecard development;
  2. 2. Credit risk modelling;
  3. 3. Credit risk management and reporting;
  4. 4. Pricing of all banking products (credit and non-credit related);
  5. 5. Provisioning model development;
  6. 6. Balance sheet management, i.e. asset-liability mismatching risk management;
  7. 7. Capital modelling;
  8. 8. Pricing and trading of derivative products;
